A Few of My Favorite Shortcuts

Almost everyone knows Ctrl +C & Ctrl + V (Copy and Paste respectively, in case you didn’t), but there are a host of others that make my day to day more convenient. Sorry to my Mac users (though most of these translate 1-to-1 with the Mac keys). Here are a few of my most frequent ones, but I’d love to hear any others you find useful!

Windows key = Windows Search bar

  • Likely my most used feature! Great for opening apps or finding for a Windows setting so I don’t have to crawl through the menu

Ctrl + Shift + Esc – Opens Task Manager

  • This is especially useful because it is a system interrupt and will open faster than trying to click into it

Ctrl + <^v> (one of arrow keys) – Moves the cursor between words

  • Allows me not delete 3 or 4 words when I realize I mistyped the first word in the sentence

  • Add the Shift key into this command and it lets you highlight word by word

Shift + Home/End – Highlights a whole line when typing

  • My main use is deleting words or phrases that don’t quite fit (I did it twice writing this line)

Windows + Shift + S – Runs the Snipping Tool

  • Great for taking a screenshot for an email/Teams message

Windows + K – Cast to TVs

  • Keeps you from having to click into that little menu

Windows + P – Adjust monitor setup

  • Quickly adjust if your displays are mirroring or duplicating your laptop screen

Windows + L – Locks your computer

  • Lock your computer before you leave your desk! I’m always tempted to send out firm-wide emails when I see an unattended screen

Enjoy working faster!
