Xfinity Wifi Home Hotspot

If you’re a Comcast internet customer, the modem in your house is most likely broadcasting Xfinitywifi, a public hotspot that any Comcast customer can connect to. At face value, this isn’t a problem; it doesn’t grant access to the rest of your internal network and is used strictly as a portal to the internet for other nearby Comcast customers. In reality, this functionality is a black box that can have cascading negative impacts that spill over onto your personal internet service.

Unless you’re a true lover of Xfinity/Comcast, I’d recommend disabling it. For Xfinity home service, you can follow these instructions to disable it. Comcast Business service will also broadcast Xfinitywifi; instructions for disabling it can be found here.
